Accidental Detention

Saffy hadn't started the new term well. She had got a detention for writing poetry down her arms. That didn't seem fair. It was a statement of her creativity.

She sighed, waiting to be told what to do.

Kenneth walked in, looking very stroppy. He'd got told off for performing pagan rituals on the school grounds. Now THAT was unfair!

Saffy took out her Sharpie, and started to doodle words on the back of her hand. Mellifluous. Defenestrate. Clamjaphry. Scamocrat.

Kenneth flopped into the seat next to Saffy and opening his notebook, commencing a poem.

Saffy looked at the boy next to her. She didn't recognize him. But she went back to writing the words. Thrift. Fretting-frock. Serendipity. Pilose.

Kenneth was scribbling down curly words.

Saffy wrote the words in different styles. She liked the way her writing could change according to the word. Benefactory. Preside. Sussurus. Meander.

Kenneth looked over at her and his eyes widened. Whoa. How had he not noticed her before!?

Saffy pushed the glasses back up her nose, rolling up her shirt sleve and moving her writing over her arm. Her whole left arm was covered in poetry, and she was writing the words on her right arm.

Kenneth felt his heart race and looked away.

Saffy looked at him curiously, and then dismissed it. No, he wouldn't look twice at her.

kenneth started to compose her a poem.

Saffy started writing words that she was associating with the boy sitting on her left. Enigmatic. Victorian. Archaic. Erotic, she added, blushing faintly.

Kenneth was writing it clearly, curly handwriting.

Saffy heard someone clear their throat, and looked up to see a teacher had entered. She put down her sharpie and roleld down her sleeves.

Kenneth carried on writing.

The teacher walked over, and he took the paper from Kenneth with a few sharp words.

Saffy put away her pen, a different word on every finger.
Perfection, righteous, medallion, infinite, thoughtfully, terror, indigenous, mellifluous, rococo, perception.

Kenneth frowned. "Give that back!"

"You are in detention. You will do your work, and then I will give it back."

Saffy blinked, and suddenly the teacher then picked up Saffy's pencilcase.
"Miss Cargill, you are to have these pens confiscated until the end of detention."

Kenneth's eyes narrowed. He reached inside his pocket whilst the teacher wasn't looking and passed Saffy his own black Sharpie.

Saffy looked at him and blushed, turning away.

Kenneth slid it into her hand, leaning back to sit upright.

"Thank you," whispered Saffy, blushing profusely at the point their fingers touched.

Kenneth had felt a jolt go through him at their touch.

Saffy took the pen carefully and hid it under her hand.

The detention was writing lines. Everyone was given a sheet of paper.
