Trying it out

It was fine as long as Mikey didn't think about it.

Eva decided to pretend to wake up in about two hours. So she did.

Mikey was sitting at his desk doing work.

Evangeline rolled onto her front under the duvet and picked up her underwear.

Mikey looked over. "You okay?"

"Yeah. I'll be getting back to my dorm now," Eva said softly, wanting to cry.

"No, you can stay if you want..." Mikey said softly.

"And do what?" Evangeline asked, pulling on her underwear.

Mikey looked a bit startled and offended. "You don't have to..." he muttered, looking back at his work.

Evangeline sighed. She was always snippy when she didn't wake up next to someone.

Mikey got back to writing.

Evangeline got dressed, thinking.

"You know what?" she said out loud, but mainly to herself. "Most guys prefer it this way. No baggage, no problems, nothing."

She didn't add the other pat of what she thought.

"I'm not most guys..." Mikey growled. So, she thought of him that way then?

What Eva hadn't added was that the first guy she ahd felt something genuine for didnlt find it that way, but his comment hurt her. How dare he think she generalised?!

She did up her skirt and slipped on her shoes.

"See you around, Michael," she said, and slipped out.

Mikey sighed, hanging his head in his hands. Mikey never cried, but he found himself doing so now.

Evangeline got back to her room before she broke down, hiding under her covers.

Maggie came out of the bathroom. "Evangeline?"

"Go away," mumbled Evangeline into her pillow.

Maggie blushed. "Sorry..." she muttered, going to the door.

"No, don't. Sorry, Maggie," Evangeline groaned, rubbing her eyes with her hands and sitting up.

"What's wrong?" she asked softly.

"Telling you would probably corrupt you," Eva said weraily. Not least to mention it was her brother.

Maggie blinked. "Oh..."

"Can you put on some music?" Eva asked. She didnlt care what it was.

Maggie nodded. "Sure." She went over to their cd player.
